Artist Statement

I started to make baskets in the early eighties and am now a full time maker and tutor - teaching day and residential workshops all year round . I work to commission in addition to producing a range of baskets for sale and have expanded my range to include willow Christmas decorations, garden structures and living willow. The bulk of my willow comes from North Curry in Somerset but I also incorporate more unusual colours of willow from Herefordshire.

Coming from a farming background the appeal of basket making for me lies in the combination of natural material with traditional skill. My interest lies in making baskets that are "right in themselves and good for use" and in reviving at least a portion of the many traditional uses for willow that have been superseded, but not surpassed by, synthetic materials.
