Workshops for Ages

In the past I have worked with people aged from 3 to 103 so I am happy to work with any age group. I feel I am able to differentiate workshops according to the needs of the particular group.

Workshops Offered

As I spent nearly 20 years working as a freelance book illustrator I have worked on projects with a literacy component – for instance I was the illustration coordinator in a East Midlands Arts sponsored project where a junior school wrote and illustrated its own book “All Four One” working alongside the author Gwen Grant,

I have talked to pupils and shown my work on many “Book Days” in both primary and secondary schools.

In 2002 I worked with the pupils at Holy Apostles School Cheltenham on a project based on “The Traditional Tale”.

In 2005 I spent a term working with Y9 pupils at Pate’s Grammar School on an illustration-based topic. (I completed a PGCE in 2004 and have taught Art to “A” Level”).

I am a very flexible individual and I am particularly interested in the sort of life skills that can be delivered to people of all ages through the medium of art. I believe that exploring individual creativity is a life-enhancing activity. I would for instance be very interested in working with primary school teachers in expanding the range of artistic skills they might deliver in the classroom.

As a child I drew constantly and I wanted to be an artist. I have made a living producing my own work and that work has been varied: a design for a bookmark for the local library, a watercolour painting of fruit for Marks and Spencer’s yoghourt pots an illustrated libretto of Madam Butterfly for the Royal Opera House, a 23feet long mural of Thomas the Tank Engine. However, just as important to me is the work I have done with people of all ages facilitating artistic development: revisiting the skills of drawing enjoyed as a child for a woman in her 90’s, seeing confidence grow for a 10 year old as he models with clay (the same boy who thought he was rubbish at drawing), a grade higher than predicted at GCSE, all achievements not always expected and sheer enjoyment in the process.
