Artist Statement

Imogen Harvey-Lewis - Born 1970 in Westminster, London, Imogen experienced a creative and loving upbringing in the care of her mother and father, an orchestral violinist and a professional painter and sculptor.

Leaving school, Imogen studied the Conservation of Historic Buildings at Lincoln College of Art, going on to receive a 1st Class Honors Degree in the History of Art from De Montford University, Leicester. On graduation, Imogen went to work in a variety of art establishments, from the renowned Impressions Gallery of Contemporary Photography, in York, to the equally well established Oxford Exhibition Services, Oxfordshire.

In the late 1990s Imogen's own creative outlet found fruition in the art of stained glass. Fortunate to serve out a old-style apprenticeship in the Gloucestershire studio of Graham Dowding, Imogen learnt the traditional art of stained glass, hands on and from the bottom up. Graham Dowding's reputation and training guaranteed a wide range of ecclesiastical and private commission and restoration work, in which she excelled in all aspects of glass work, but in particular design and glass panting.

These skills served Imogen well in a wide range of restorative work at Gloucester Cathedral at which she worked for many years under the high reputation of the Dowding studio. In 1999 Imogen established her private studio as a Stained Glass Artist and designer.

More recently Imogen has sought to enrich and develop her design and illustration skills in the passionate study of drawing. Quite literally drawing from her past and enthusiastic to continue her creative development, Imogen has successfully forged a career as an illustrator and community artist. Twice prize winner for the Big Draw 2007, Imogen is currently tutoring drawing and illustration at Bristol School of Drawing, Prema Arts Centre and in schools throughout the county. She continues to indulge her passion for good design and strong line work in her career as an illustrator, artist and designer.
