Artist Statement

I have been an Arts Worker since 1990 and a qualified workshop leader teaching harmony singing and world music in schools and the community since 1999. I teach almost entirely by ear (though I read and learn from music) and my repertoire is drawn from a wide variety of styles and cultures across the world.

My workshops are led with warmth, humour and infectious enthusiasm creating a friendly, supportive environment in which to learn. Aural teaching makes these wonderful songs easily accessible to singers of all ages and abilities enabling them to experience a freer way of singing and helping them connect with the feel and spirit of the songs.

Wherever appropriate I incorporate movement, rhythm and dance using authentic African percussion instruments. I have visited South Africa three times collecting songs, learning and working with a choir there.

I am currently Musical Director of three adult community choirs in Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Worcester and co-leader of the ‘Beckford Big Sing’.

I am a member of the Natural Voice Practitioners Network
