Artist Statement

Galina has always enjoyed painting, and since starting a family her work has veered towards portraiture, particularly child portraits. She frequently sketches her own kids and uses them as inspiration for her work, as well as undertaking private commissions. She uses a variety of media including oil, watercolour, pastel, pen & wash, chalk & charcoal and pencil, aiming always to capture the unique character of each subject.

Galina combines her artistic work with her work with young children at the local pre-school, where she is a supply staff member and helps to involve the children in creative projects. At the local primary school Galina is currently jointly leading a project to create a mural in the playground area involving teachers, children and parents. She has also previously jointly designed and overseen the painting of a large backdrop for a school production.

Prior to having a family Galina had one-man exhibitions in Wales and in Hertfordshire, and produced various private portrait and landscape commissions in the UK and in Kenya. She is currently a full member of the Gloucestershire Society of Artists and has exhibited with them in May 2009.
