Artist Statement

I have spent the last ten years teaching in secondary schools and am currently enjoying working in primary schools while I study on a part-time M.A. to extend my own art practice. I have also taught adults in ‘evening classes’, and formally in colleges. I trained as a painter but enjoyed the opportunities to explore a wide range of techniques and materials in order to teach art to 11-18 year-old students. I firmly believe that if you are willing to try something, you can make it work! I want to encourage creativity from the earliest stages through to old age; enjoying the processes of seeing, making marks, spreading paint, feeling clay in your hands, building up shapes, watching art work change and develop- these things are exciting and enriching.

My own work is in a state of flux; I would have, until recently described confidently as a painter, but now I’m not so sure- I find myself beginning to explore other ways of expressing my ideas using installation and photography as well.
