Workshops for Ages

All Ages but under 5’s, Infants and Juniors in particular.

Workshops Offered

I offer interactive storytelling sessions using dance, drama, and storytelling to explore children’s books. Workshops to date include: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Mousehole Cat, We’re All Going on a Bear Hunt, Crafty Coyote, The Finger Eater, The BFG, Where the Wild Things Are, The Iron Man, Robin Hood, Harry Potter.

I also offer creative writing and/or poetry workshops based on any topic - I can combine with art for displaying purposes.

Artist Statement

I have offered creative workshops to schools for over ten years and have worked extensively in Gloucestershire. I work free lance and for local theatres (at present I am part of The Everyman’s reach out team).

My special interest is in how children’s books can be brought to life through working interactively using dance, drama and language games which involve children in the creative process. In turn this enhances and develops language and literacy skills.

My interest in contemporary poetry, which I have studied to a high level, means I can offer poetry and creative writing workshops to children of all ages as well. Combining this with art projects, used to display the written work, is another facet of my work.

I have also worked as Dance Development Officer for Gloucestershire Dance and as a lecturer on the Performance Arts course at the University of Gloucestershire, teaching Arts in a Social Context.

My educational background includes a degree in Psychology and Performance, an MA in Fine and Media Arts and more recently a PhD in Contemporary Poetry.

My career highlights to date: being Poet in Residence at an inner city school in Bristol where one of my pupils won an award and read her poem to Andrew Motion, being part of a Literacy Improvement programme in Worcestershire with early years children, speaking at a National Conference in Creativity in the Early Years and acting as a part time lecturer at my local university.
